Okay I am looking to mod a servo from hitec hopefully.

basically I need to get 10 rotations out of it knowing where I am in the whole range.

Any Ideas or thoughts on getting this done?

Using the openservo, with OpenEncoder would likely get you there. Browse around and find the OE stuff.
