Hi,
I am an embedded/electrical engineer at a startup in the Portland, Oregon area with an interest in robotics. I have a thing for miniaturization, and have long been looking at trying to create a small biped. The limitation on the quality of smaller servos has always been a catch in trying to get any reasonable stability or accuracy of motion. To me, there are many advantages to smaller robots (e.g. cost and resilience to falls) as long as you can get past having to deal with small parts.
I'm honestly not sure how I found the OpenServo project but it was very exciting to me. The thought had honestly never occured to create my own servo board even though I'd used them quite a bit.
I'm fairly good with circuit design and layout and even do a bit of embedded programming as my day job. I'm jealous of Mike because he is doing a lot of the things that I would given enough resources
I am hopeful I'll be able to get a micro/sub-micro servo working well enough to build a couple of legs. I plan to contribute my designs back to the community so a wider variety of openservo sizes can be created. |
