Hi folkz
I`m a CADworker in the automotive enviroment and very interessed in RCmodeling.
since two years I play with bluetooth to command my models and enjoy the safe and powerfull features of a state-of-the-art radio
It`s based on bluegiga THOR or WT11 bluetooth class1-devices with a simple serial data-protocol. as decoder acts an ATt26 for max.14servos, on ground a AVR butterfly sample the input and visualise telemetrie datas.
I`m a newby with AVRs, but it`s not so difficult to have suscess with BASCOM. for more complex projects I will learn to deal with a C-compiler to enjoy faster code.
now the last analog barrier will falls: with open servo the communication between the model and the comander will be full-digital.
to made the use on lil`servos possible I plan to made a ATt26-based brick for four microservos.
maybe in the future a autonomus flying robot with videolink will be mine..
first tests with optical mouse sensors are quite promissing.
please forgive my english, I`m a swiss with german/french language and to busy to learn and reach a perfect level _________________ not to old to play with scrap |

Welcome Wurpfel!
Fully digital and serial comms with the servos is one of the greatest features of the OpenServo. Keep us updated on your flying autonomous robot! Sounds like a really fun project.
If you ever want to buy some of the OpenServo v2.1 boards, please feel free to e-mail me at RobotJay@gmail.com and I'll happily sell you some. ^_^ Hope to hear from you again soon!

thanks Jay for your offer!
but most of my planes weight less than two standard-servo
I work often the 10gr-class, some less. too
as newbe it will take some time to gain experiance for the robo-project. _________________ not to old to play with scrap |

Hi Wurpfel!
Welcome to the OpenServo community. If there is anything you can use for your interesting project please let us know!
Do you have any links to your small servos? I would love to get hold on some of those. I bet a cut down OpenServo 1.1 would fit inside one.

Hi Barry
It`s possible.. but half-cut is not enough
a typical 3.3gr servo for indoorplanes
http://www.rc-dymond.com/index.php?productID=175
for such tiny devices I plan to made a print with two H-bridges (SI5515-P/Nmosfet) and the ATt26 as controller. also the ESC for the VSRbrushless and two connectors for (analog) servos will be onboard.
two of the servos will be dismantled and fix also on the print. the micro-poties are scrap, they will be replaced thru homemade encoderwheels, like the pix below. It`s to buy at DIDEL, the engine is a 4mm pager
the I2C-bus controll all and provide telemetrie-data like engine-temp, batterie-status, current.. all this will be send down by the bluegiga WT11/12 in serial mode.
I expect a PCB in the dimensions like the WT11: 25*12mm
a lot of work!
more realistic
I only made a OPEN SERVO microHUB for two servos. the micro or mega devices will be dismantled and connected.. but the poties will be left for encoderwheels. _________________ not to old to play with scrap |

Thanks!
I really like that pager servo. It is truly an artform making something like that. Maybe I will leave that sort of complexity for people who have an over abundance of patience

Very interesting stuff. It'd be great if you kept a ""build log"" of this project in the Applications section of the forum. I'd really like to keep track of what you're doing! |

Thanks for your interesst on my stuff!
I`ll start a log, but before some MUSTs with the family have to be done
today the modded nokia 6130 color-displays reached my. this kinda device will be the front end of the tool-chain to configure open-servos out in the field. It`s offer 132x132pix and 65k colors, but that`s enough to see on a GUI how the servos performs and make changes.
It`s also great to visualize telemetrie-datas in form of a EFIS
HAPPY X-MAS to all! _________________ not to old to play with scrap |

Merry Cristmas to all indeed.
How much do those displays cost? They look awesome and fairly easy to use. I bet they would make a good companion to GumStix. _________________ "Nothing is fool-proof; For we fools are ingenious and will find a way." |

Hi folkz
the nokia-displays can be driven direct thru a AVR-micro/gumstick (20?) or comes with a display-driver-card (40?).
this addon inteprets and displays serial commandos like ""draw a lines from point A to B"", ""set a point at XY"", offer fonts in small, medium, big, bold...! A lot of C-libs are also included.
For me it save time and AVRs-ressources _________________ not to old to play with scrap |

I love the homemade servo wurpfel! Can you further explain how you made it, what materials you used and any complications you had during construction. Looks great!
Welcome to openservo.

Hi Colin
I`m so sorry, but it`s not my servo on the pix. This one is to buy from didel
I prefer a self-holding design. the tall version will include encoder-wheels (hall-effect), gear and motor from cdr-readheads-drive and a M5-screw.
the lil`ones use mouse-encoder, a M3-nylonscrew, servogear and pagermotor.
make pix in a new thread asap _________________ not to old to play with scrap |

how can I help you?
Im playing with electronic, but I be not yet an expert. most things are done with arduino.
Also active in ardupilot, a diy-autopilot-community.
will be glad to hear something from you _________________ not to old to play with scrap |
